Spellbinders Spring In Kyoto Collection: Kokeshi Dolls

These gorgeous projects are brought to life with the enchanting Spring in Kyoto collection from Spellbinders — and let me tell you, this die set is nothing short of magical!

Inspired by the charm and tradition of Japanese Kokeshi dolls, the intricate layering dies let you build sweet, stylized figures with endless customization options. From the delicate fans and hair accessories to the beautifully detailed kimonos, this set allows for both minimalist elegance and maximalist flair — depending on your creative mood.

For my first card, I went clean and simple with a bold black, white, and violet palette, letting the doll and sentiment truly shine against a crisp background.

The second design leans fully into the ornate beauty of the collection, featuring layered fans, stitched blossoms, and metallic accents that make it feel like a miniature art piece.

Whether you’re crafting for love, friendship, or just to celebrate beauty in the everyday, these Kokeshi dies are the perfect focal point for a heartfelt handmade card.

✨ Craft tip: Paper piecing with glossy cardstock adds that perfect lacquered finish to mimic real Kokeshi dolls — and foam tape gives just the right amount of dimension.

Would love to know — are you team minimalist or maximalist when it comes to cardmaking?

Honey Bee Stamps: Lovely Layers Vintage Reindeer mini card gift tag

Jennifer McGuire has inspired me to make so many shaped cards lately, I took it one step further and created a 3D mini card / tag to top my parents Christmas gifts this year.

The focal image is from the ever amazing Honey Bee stamps: Lovely Vintage Reindeer. Honey Bee provides layering guides for all their layering sets, so it was remarkably easy to assemble.

I created a mini card base with the largest tag for from a Mama Elephant set that I had in my stash, and filled the background with foliage from Winter Greenery

Honey Bee Lovely Layers Hoosier Cabinet

As part of our 2024 Fall Crop & Create Delivered workshops, Honeybee included this amazing Lovely Layers Hoosier Cabinet die set.

Yes, it has a lot of tiny pieces, but the it’s remarkably easy to work with!

Most of my pieces cut beautifully from coloured cardstock, or I used distress inks to color white 80lb cardstock to suit whatever color palette I wanted.

Using Honey Bee Metallic Mix pearls were perfect for the tiny drawer & door knobs. Enamel dots or Nuvo drops or anything you have in your stash could also work beautifully.

To add a festive twist, I pulled out my Lovely Layers Christmas Market Cart add on from Honey Bee and used the Bundt, pine boughs and stocking. Crimson cardstock from Spellbinders and white pieces inked with spun sugar oxide for the dishes and rustic wilderness for the boughs.

My Favorite Things MFT Squeeze The Day

Jenoblade is my favorite illustrator with the My Favorite Things team. I just love the chubby adorable critter sets she creates – and each set has supporting images to easily create many different scenes.

This card was inspired by one of the design team members projects (nickynoocards) from the release. And with summer just around the corner here in the Pacific Northwest I was inspired to create with this set as soon as I got it.

I very often make cards with no sentiment so that I can keep them on hand for whatever occasion may come up.

This stamp & coordinating die set is available on the My Favorite Things website now – thanks for taking the time to stop by! 💛

Sizzix Cupcake Card Die ~ Pink & Sparkly!

I have had this Sizzix cupcake for for a while now, and I had a stroke of inspiration when I saw Doodlebug’s Hey Cupcake enamel sprinkles in my local craft supply store. I knew I had to pull out this die set to make a card with these cute sprinkles!

The construction of the cupcake was super easy – I used 110lb card-stock for the base, cut just above the score line to allow a top folding card base.

Using foam tape under the cupcake base and ‘icing’ layers gave it just the right pop of dimension; and a C00 Coptic marker to lightly add in some shading to create more dimension in the icing.

A white gel pen & crystal effects added a perfect gloss on the cherry – glued flat to the icing layer.

I loved the box so much, that I decided to make another one using Stampin Up card stock and the Sale-A-Bration DSP (designer series paper). I love Avon lip balm – it’s a great price, and there is always so many different designs and flavors available, I thought they would be perfect for this project  Here is my modified project using Sam’s tutorial:

Valentine’s Day: Squirrels In Love

Just a quick post today to show you a card I made for Eric – we have an inside joke about squirrels, and since Stampin Up doesn’t have any squirrel stamps I went to my local scrapbook store & got this set from Kaiser Craft

A special thanks to Cee Cee for the inspiration for this card – I pretty much cased the entire thing, but just changed the paper & colors to fit with the supplies I had on hand.
