Stampin Up with Lovely As A Tree

Did you know that Stampin Up’s “Lovely As A Tree” set has been around since 2006?!  Generally, sets are retired about every two years.  THIS set has made the cut year after year, and I can see why!!

Not only is it truly ‘lovely’, but it can be used for so many different occasions and holidays.  I can’t think of any other set in my craft room that is as versatile as this one.

I just received this set last week, and I knew I had to tinker with it!  Based off a tutorial by Dawn I used a piece of window sheet (clear acetate) to create this card:

Lovely As A Tree Reflection Technique

Lovely As A Tree Reflection Technique

Here is what I used to create this card:

  • Stamps:  Stampin Up:
    • Lovely As A Tree (Page 78, #127793 clear mount),
    • Teeny Tiny Wishes (page 44 #127802 clear mount)
  • Ink:
    • Soft Suede (trees)
    • Old olive (‘grass’ area)
    • Marina Mist ((water / reflection area)
  • Card stock:
    • Crumb cake
    • Old olive
    • Chocolate chip
    • Naturals very vanilla (for inside panel)
  • Other tools:  Wood grain embossing folder, window sheets / clear acetate, linen thread, 1/16″ hole punch

Like this card?  YOU can make it too! Contact me anytime to place an order – I can have it delivered anywhere in Canada in as little as 4-5 days!

Stampin Up Cake Pops

Hi Stampers!

Here is what I have been up to lately:  CAKE POPS!!

Cake Pops with Stampin Up for Father's Day gift treat

Cake Pops Stampin Up style for Father’s Day gift / treat

These were actually for my partner, who was returning from a week long business trip – I wanted to make something special for him, and I knew he had a sweet tooth.

It occurred to me while I was making them that this would also be a GREAT Father’s day gift as well.  It could be a fun thing for Mom’s to do with kids to make the cake pops, then Mom could get in there with her Stampin Up gear and make the labels.

These are a great manly / masculine gift period – I found the trick is to make sure you use ‘manly’ colors – like the brown sprinkles and neutral colored tags etc.

I pretty much used half of my craft room for this – but you could really use ONE stamp set and they would still look great!

Here is the list of Stampin Up tools I used:

STAMPS:

  • Postage Due
  • Chalk Talk
  • ** I’m missing a few – I will have to check the exact name – stay tuned **

INKS:

  • Crumb Cake
  • Night of Navy
  • Real Red

PUNCHES:

  • Postage stamp
  • Petite curly label
  • 1/2″  circle
  • Chalk talk framelits
  • XL oval
  • Small & large tag punch (retired)

The cello bags came from the dollar store along with the curly ribbon. The candy melts & lolly sticks we got at Michaels.  I made the cake pop stand out of a styrofoam block (also from Michaels) and I wrapped it in kraft paper (meant for sending parcels) and put a ribbon around it to cover up the tape a little bit 😉

**HELPFUL HINTS & TRICKS FOR THIS CAKE POP PROJECT**

  1. The recipe on the Duncan Hines website states to use half the icing tub – I actually only used a QUARTER of the tub.  Using half would probably make your cake pops a little too moist and they may fall off the stick while you are trying to coat them.  Try adding a tablespoon at a time until the mix is moist enough to make a into ball.
  2. To melt the (Wilton) candy / chocolate: use the DEFROST button on your microwave if you do not have a double boiler.

Both of these tips are crucial to the success of your cake pops!  I tried to make cake pops before and it was a disaster.

I am happy to share any info you would like that I may have missed here – simply leave me a comment!

Until next time stampers!

10 minute treat favor / goodie bags

For my latest workshop to celebrate the new catalog, I prepared a little thank you gift for the attendees.  I wanted something that everyone could use, and that looked great, but was still within my budget – so I made these great goodie bag / party favors with a few basic tools.

Treat Goodie Bag Party Favors Stampin Up

Goodie bag party favors to workshop attendees

What you need to make these party favor goodie bags:

  • Big Shot / die cutting machine
  • Top Note die
  • DSP / card stock
  • Ribbon
  • small clear cello bags (I got mine at the dollar store)
  • shredded tissue paper (dollar store again)

* TIP*  I stuck my embellishments to a piece of clear acetate to make sure that the presentation would be perfect.

I made the embellishments from the new “Buttons & Blossoms” clay molds available in the new Stampin Up catalog.  Using the freshly pressed 2013 – 2014 In Color line, these are the greatest thing I have seen in a looooong time for crafting!!  I hate it when I cannot find embellishments to match my project colors.  NOW you can make your own!!  ALl you need is the clay (which goes a LONG way – at least 60 embellishments from one bag of clay) and some reinkers.  Your total investment is around $20.  Just THINK of the savings!!! And the convenience… Need I go on?

Until next time stampers!!!

Keep calm, and craft on!!

Stampin Up Tea Bag Dispenser Gift Box

With Mother’s Day coming up, I thought this tea bag dispenser gift box would be a great Stampin Up project to demonstrate.  The measurements are quite fiddly, but the finished project is well worth it!  Thanks to Heidi at Running With Scissors for the instructions.  Being still relatively new to papercrafting myself, I typed up the instructions in an easy to follow PDF. Click to download tutorial here:  Stamp Right Up Tea Bag Dispenser Instructions

I was super excited to use a product from the NEW Stampin Up catalog, which is officially released May 31, 2013.  We are given a few products available for pre-order and I snatched up the opportunity.  Can you spot the new item?!…

It’s the flower blossom embellishment on top of the lid! I made it with the new Blossoms & Buttons simply pressed molds and pool party reinkers. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that we are now going to create embellishments in ANY color Stampin Up carries!! Now, all you have to do is order the reinkers and we can make our own buttons & flower embellishments!!  There are 3 different sizes for buttons and 3 sizes for the flower blossoms, my example show on the lid is the medium sized ~ they are about the size of a nickel – I used pool party reinker to color the clay.   The clay is EXTREMELY lightweight; it almost feels like styrofoam… It is a silicone compound.
So they really are perfect for cards or any paper project!  I personally tested each design to see how durable they are:  the buttons I can literally fold in half and they didn’t break or crack; the flower cracked a little when folded completely in half, but it only shows if bent – so these are very forgiving and durable and will most definitely make it through even the most unforgiving postman.

I cannot WAIT to show you more of these in the next few weeks!  Official orders for the new catalog begin May 31st – I will have electronic AND digital copies ready as soon as we are able to release them. If you would like to be included on either mailing list for official hardcopy, or digital copy of the catalog please comment below as well and I will make sure you are in the know!

Stampin Up: May Flowers Workshop for Mother’s Day

I am pleased to say that this weekend marks another successful workshop!  I had the pleasure of running a private workshop with Leyla – it was a great experience for us both. As she is new to paper crafting, card making and Stampin Up in general, I really loved having the opportunity to work one on one with her to show her all the tips & tricks that I have learned along the way.

When I was planning the workshop, I tried to put a lot of thought in to which techniques would be good to work with for beginners while still making fun & appealing projects.

The theme of the workshop was “May Flowers” so I wanted to make a card similar to one that my upline had made with the Fancy Flower punch.  I found this video tutorial from Dawn on how to make a different style of a paper flower and LOVED the look of this technique.
I added an extra step to Dawn’s tutorial and sponged the edges of each flower layer with crumb cake ink;  it is a bit time consuming to ink / sponge the edges, but it REALLY makes a difference and give the flower so much more dimension.  You could also use the coordinating ink to match your card stock, or use a contrasting ink to give it an extra punch of color.

Stamp Right Up Mother's Day Paper Flower Card

Mother’s Day Paper Flowers Card

Here’s what we used to make this lovely card:

  • Crumb Cake card stock (4.25 x 5.5)
  • Very Vanilla card stock (4 x 5.25)
  • Pretty in Pink ink (background stamped image)
  • Crumb cake ink (sponged on edges of flower petals & along edge of very vanilla mat layer)
  • Fancy Flower punch
  • Itty Bitty Banners
  • En Francais background stamp
  • Pink Pirouette card stock (flowers)
  • Champagne glimmer paint (on flowers)
  • Pearls
  • Twitterpated buttons

As always, your comments & feedback are welcome and appreciated!

Until next time stampers!

Mini Workshop Materpieces

Look what my girls made in the Mini Workshop I hosted on Monday!  We had a great time – I mean really, how much more perfect can girls night out be when it includes great company & crafting?!

Each workshop I host as a demonstrator, I always create a tutorial / handout for the participants to take home with them after the workshop so that they can recreate the cards again at home.  As a little bonus for all you stampers out there, I have included a link to download the PDF tutorials on how to make each card from that workshop!  Some of the other cards I have featured in other posts also have a PDF tutorial – if you are interested in one, please comment below or message me & I can email you a PDf copy.

This card is super cute, but the pinwheel sizzlits can be a serious problem to put together… that is if you don’t know the trick to assembling them!  Check out this video on the easy way to assemble these little guys with ease and no frustration:  http://youtu.be/9PCjFyN7-qs

The other WAY COOL technique I taught the group was the “fork bow”.  Who knew you could use a fork to produce consistent, easy to make bows!!  I found this YouTube tutorial on how to make easy ribbon bows:  http://youtu.be/RBza9q1rKRo

Workshop April 6th 2013: Project Reveal #1

Stampin Up Chalkboard technique

Photo courtesy & copy write of Feathertassel

When I found this ADORABLE version of Stampin Up’s chalkboard technique from Feathertassel I knew I had to demonstrate the chalkboard in my upcoming workshop!

So, stampers:  get ready! This will be a SUPER SUPER fun & creative project (one of THREE!)

Be sure to RSVP at Meetup.com – it’s free & easy to sign up!  I will be posting more sneak previews of projects for the workshop April 6 so be sure to check back!

Can’t make the April 6th date?  I am also holding a mini-workshop with limited space where I will be demonstrating projects using the Big Shot, along with bleaching & glittering techniques that are not able to be shown at the larger workshops.

Make & Take: Spring Edition

Our first workshop was a success!  It was a small group this time but we had a great time and learned new projects & techniques.  (Myself included!)

For this workshop we made 3 projects:

  1. Easter treat holder / party favor
  2. Owl card
  3. Swallowtail Butterfly card using ghosting technique

Here are a few pictures of my examples I used in class.
